Photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive technique based on skin stimulation, regeneration and repair. It is normally used to treat skin lesions without damaging healthy tissue.
The process involves three elements: a photosensitizer (drug), a light source (lamp) and the oxygen in the environment. The photosensitizer is applied to the skin and reacts upon exposure to a light source and oxygen. The light emitted activates photoreceptors that transform cellular structures to produce the desired changes.
Photodynamic therapy is well tolerated, and painless.
