Mastopexy is a surgical procedure performed to correct sagging breasts of regular size. In this cases, by means of a periareolar or vertical incision, the surgeon removes extra skin and changes the breast height and shape. In some cases, this technique is combined with the placement of implants.
It is important to bear in mind that scarring remains after a mastopexy, which will fade in time. The effects of mastopexy are not permanent and they will evolve depending on factors such as new pregnancies, weight variations and age.
It is generally an outpatient surgery that lasts between two and three hours and which is performed under general anaesthesia.

Which women can undergo mastopexy?
Women who are not pregnant and do not plan to be pregnant shortly, who are healthy, have a balanced weight, are not smokers and, of course, have droopy breasts.
What are scars like?
The number of incisions depend on how sagging the breasts are. The more you need to lift breasts, the bigger the scar will be.
How do you prepare for mastopexy surgery?
You should fast for at least eight hours before surgery and avoid anticoagulants such as aspirin.
Are there any risks involved?
The risks involved in a breast lift surgery include bruising, infection, bleeding, slow scarring issues or high sensitivity in the surgery zone.
How long does recovery take?
This is quite a simple surgery and usual activities may be resumed in 4 days. However, you may not lift weights or make high impact exercise for 3 months. It is important to wear a special bra and avoid to sleep on your stomach. Logically, after a mastopexy, there may be swelling, breasts will be more sensitive and you may feel some pain. The swelling will gradually disappear but do not panic if it goes on for 2 or 3 months.
