Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery removes excess skin from the upper eyelids and reduces bagginess from the lower eyelids.
The surgery takes approximately one hour. If the four eyelids are operated on, the eye plastic surgeon will work on the upper eyelids first and will usually cut along the natural lines of your eyelids to remove the excess skin and tighten the orbicularis muscle.
When lower eyelids are excessively droopy, the incision is generally made under the lower eyelashes with very small stitches that heal easily and are virtually invisible three months after the surgery.
General anaesthesia, as well as local anaesthesia combined with venous sedation, may be used and it is an outpatient procedure.
