Breast reduction or reduction mammaplasty is a procedure used to remove excess fat, tissue and skin to make breasts smaller and proportionate to the rest of the body.
Many times reduction surgery also entails alleviation to back problems and other skin issues under the breasts.
Breast reduction is a repair, comforting surgery that can be performed at any age but results are better when your breasts are fully developed. It is usually done under general anaesthesia and it lasts 2 to 4 hours depending on the technique selected and breast size.
It generally requires to stay in hospital overnight. Periareolar and vertical scars are inevitable but, with the necessary care and, many times, with laser, they can become almost invisible. Usually, patients may go back to their regular activities as from the sixth or seventh day of recovery and they will be allowed to drive after five days.
